Did you enjoy the course?
Really enjoyed it.
What aspects you enjoyed the most?
Mainly being able to learn Flash itself and strengthening knowledge from previous use of Adobe software. I liked the pace of the teaching and how each week we'd build further on the groundwork laid from the previous week. It was also helpful there were only six of us in the course and Bjorn was able to give time to each individual. Bjorn was also very good about going over concepts (buttons!) again (and again, if need be!) in order to make sure we all grasped the concept and steps of the process before moving on to the next stage. He's very patient! : ).
Anything you didn't enjoy?
No..
Did you learn the skills you needed?
Broadly speaking yes.
What were the highlights of what you learned?
Broadly speaking, yes, because it's a massively in-depth program with so much to absorb. Highlight were the animation/tweening process that Flash allows, insertion of other media files (music & video), how to create a Flash based web page--very important! Most of all, and Bjorn always emphasized this: THINKING and giving time to the thinking process of what one wants to achieve or create and gathering all those building blocks first as opposed to just throwing something together then having to spend time making changes later. A bit of planning and thinking ahead makes a smart work approach..
Did anything hinder your learning?
Only my own daftness!.
In what ways are you beginning to think differently?
The course opened new ways of thinking and problem solving within a new media (coming from a print background) it was an excellent way to think about how these two mediums (print and Web) complement each other in the marketplace..
Will you be applying your new skills?
Yes definitely.
When are you likely to apply your new skills?
Within a month.
What are your short term plans for applying the learning? (1-12 weeks)
I have one freelance client at the moment in need of a Web site, and I've got the vector work done for what's needed, but would like to create some small animations (ads, banners, etc.) and slideshows for placement in the Web site. Also, to do the same for myself for my own site..
What are your long term plans for applying the learning? (13+ weeks)
On my own, I'd like to follow up with Adobe's Classroom in a Book for Flash and download a 30-day trial to use at home. Eventually, I'd like to purchase a copy to be able to offer the service as a freelancer and not just be limited to print design..
What difference is the course likely to make to you or your business?
Big difference, skills gap significantly addressed.
Your general comment on likely business benefit:
The demand for these skills in my field is growing and I want to be able to say I have the skills to contribute in new media, not just print. If no permanent job offer comes through soon, I am seriously considering starting my own design business for which these skills will be invaluable..
